The Maggie song, and some others like "Ill take you home again kathleen" are difficult to categorize. Kathleen is not Irish but American made I believe, but the problem is it is highly associated with those countries.

Maggie is the symbolic Scottish female name, and the Maggie song is usually included on "Best of Scotland" albums, and performed by scottish bands, just as "Ill take you home again Kathleen" is performed by many irish tenors and singers. The songs have essentially been adopted to the point that the birth mother is no longer in custody of it.
