Sonnet 01/08/04                         CMXXIV

I hear my muse, though I have not heard voice
Nor gazed into those eyes: My dreams have held
To words, and thought of smile. It is not choice,
But concern keeping me away. I've spelled
Out all my longings: She need only ask,
To have more than my words. But she can be
Whatever she might want, though I'll not mask
Desire to hold her close, and her smile see.
I see her, in mind's eye, though I just dream
She holds hands out, in greeting. I would seize
All she might offer, but I cannot give
What would not bring a smile. My words might seem
Confused, but verse and dream on muse agrees:
She is the one that makes my passions live.
