The date the Grunt Band guested Les, was 4th April 1971 - my diary recalls that I wasn't impressed! I WAS impressed with a 22 minute version of Tam Lin that Mike Cooney did though. We had him on a couple of times in the early '70s. I was probably at the pictures when Trevor Lucas was booked as this a tad before my time though John Smith did a tape of what I'm told, was a legendary performance. Pete Rimmer may have this cassette now. Incidentally I noticed a copy of Trevor's "The Overlander" LP going for £500 on eBay a few weeks back.
