I have a broad webbing strap on my bodhran, improvised from the carry strap from a big duffel bag - I have attached the short bits with clicky-connectors to the frame - and attach the strap when I want to stand up to sing and play - which I usually do.

It is handy to be able to just drop the drum which swings around to behind my back when I want to change instruments, which mostly means I'm reaching for my lagerphone; it works well in reverse too, to go back to the drum I get my hands empty and reach behind my back inserting my hand under the crossbars and the drum slides back around the front with my damping hand in position and ready to play. The tippers get slid in and out of my back pocket.
