Sonnet 27/08/04                         CMXXVII

What is the power of a woman's tears,
That they dissolve all chance heart might resist?
How can my hopes upon my dreams insist,
When her eyes, damp, show that she still has fears?
I seek only her smile, but what appears
I can't control: I may my desires list,
But hers are all that matter. I have kissed
Forehead, in dreams: Desire all action steers.
How am I to her sorrows ease, from far
Beyond the reach of arms? Dream cannot heal
Another's pain, yet heart must try to earn
All she has given: Years and miles might bar
Acting on my desire, but hope can steal
A kiss from dreams to taste of her love learn.
