Sonnet 03/09/04                        CMXXIX

Does vision let heart see enough to know
What might give muse reason for smile? I try
To still remember that I should not show
How much I need her, but heart cannot lie:
She fills my nights with longing. Can I tell
What I find in her eyes, in dream, and yet
Pretend my soul is not under her spell?
What words might show love, but not muse upset?
Hope feeds illusion that I'll have a chance
To hold her in my arms: A dreamed –of kiss
Gives me a taste of spring, and sweet romance,
But dream cannot all of desire dismiss.
She is one I will treasure, but I fear
I dare not try to touch, nor hold her near.
