Thread Name: The nice thing about Scottish bagpipes.
Subject: RE: The nice thing about Scottish bagpipes.
The only problem with Scottish Pipes indoors is VOLUME ! The pipes were intended for OUTDOOR use , particularly in BATTLE . Pipes in a band mean that all the other instruments HAVE to be amplified , simply for sound balance . The result in any thing but a large hall is DEAFENING !!!!
The last time I let myself be inveigled into an indoor event was Tannahill Weavers in a building with a quite low ceiling ! The music was very well played , but it was impossible to have any kind of a conversation , even in the seperate bar it was too loud .
And dont forget , I am an ex piper ! Earls Court is OK for Pipe bands , but its a bit big for a Folk Club !
