The "every day is Earth Day" comment made me think of this charming little ditty I composed last Earth Day.
Ode to Earth Day. Pick any waltz tune you like and join right in!
jen

Nights are still freezing. We're all sneezing or wheezing
The crocus are trying too hard.
The redwings are whistling. Robins stand listening
for dinner out in the yard.

A Canadian April… Pussy willows and maple
Syrup tastes sweet on the tongue.
Snowbanks stop growing. Creek's overflowing
And we're all going Green for a day.

Cause it's Earth Day in Can a da.
Garbageless lunch - all the rage.
Pick up the trash that was tossed out the window. Write on the back of the page.
Yes it's Earth Day in Can a da.
The day we atone for our greed
Pretend that we care and are doing our share.
And never take more than we need.

Snowbirds returning. Noses are burning.
Forgot to wear sunscreen again.
Farmers are cursing. Daffodils bursting.
Storm sewers work overtime.

I'm out here baking, digging and raking.
Watching the sky for the rain.
Writing this tune, lord, I wish it was June.
I'd rather be making…
"Whoopee"

But it's Earth Day in Can a da.
Garbageless lunch – all the rage.
Pick up the trash that was tossed out the window.
Write on the back of the page.
Yes it's Earth Day in Can a da.
The day we atone for our greed
Pretend that we care
And are doing our share.
And never take more than we need.
