Sonnet 22/09/04                            CMXXXII

Dream gives me all that my soft words have earned,
But heart longs for far more: How can I steal
The hope enough to offer all I feel?
For all my study, heart has never learned
To tell kindness from care. Dream has returned
Imagined passions: Can I know what's real,
Without even one kiss, to desires seal?
Should heart have from dream her desires discerned?
She is my muse: I cannot tears ignore,
Nor seek less than her smile. All I might say
Does not hopes change, yet can dream desires cure
Of longings for her touch? Should passions stray
Beyond all reason, how would I restore
The feelings found when she her dreams display?
