Wilson Pickett's cover version of "LOATD" was better known than the original, but Chris Kenner's performance of his own composition, like a lot of records made in New Orleans, made the national "R&B" (i.e., black-community-only) charts while selling to a broader interracial market only regionally (i.e., along the Gulf Coast from Houston to Mobile/Pensacola).

Chris Kenner is probably best known for his one truly national hit, "I Like It Like That." I don't recall his real name ~ "Kenner" is the name of his hometown, a small city outside New Orleans that was once a farming center and a separate little metropolis, but which now has become a suburb as the N.O. metropolitan area has grown. Kenner is the site of our local airport, Louis Armstrong International (formerly known as Moisant Field).
