Point of fact, Penny is not at all private about this subject. Her dad is (was?) an oldtime country singer with a drinking problem. She wrote and recorded a song about it called "Daddy don't sing sober anymore", said she sang it for him and they both cried, but "it was a good cry."

Reminds me, FWIW, of another name for the list: Dick Gaughan. (Why the connection? I saw them together in a workshop once. It was very cool. He was hosting and she played some song that had so much of the real spirit in it, he just told her "Accch, Penny, do anither one." A good call.)
