Sonnet 14/10/04                           CMXXXIX

In dream, I give a book of hours: Each page
A chance to step outside of time, and find
A refuge from Life's cares. In other age,
I would seek favour to upon arm bind,
And show my heart's devotion: I declare
I would your champion be. How might I earn
That look in eyes, and all of longings share?
How can my words show how much my dreams yearn?
In dream, I hold you safe from any harms,
Protected by concern, and care. Should I
Seek more than that? If I held you in arms,
Could I contain desire, and dreams deny?
You know my hopes: You need but ask, to be
The one I would in mornings think to see.
