We have been talking mainly about songs which have been pulled because their content offended listeners. In effect, most artists are denied access to airplay because they are not on playlists, for the reason Robomatic gave. Because playlists exist and are subject to scrutiny, to guarantee advertising revenue, most artists who are not already famous, or have no major company behind them, have no access to radio plays. The stations do not describe this as a ban, but the effect is just the same.
