Yesterday, Mother's Day, my mother left this life for the next. She will be missed for her humour and wisdom, her creativity and faith, her kindness and mercy, but mostly for her love.

Some of you may know Dorothy Crocker through her abundant work for the Girl Guides of Canada, and the Anglican Church of Canada. She had lurked at the Mudcat in the early years, having discovered here an interest in hymns, but as far as I know she didn't post here.

After weeks suffering from the effects of a broken hip and a stroke, she spent yesterday drifting in and out of sleep, listening to CBC radio, then to an hour or so of me playing hymns on guitar as she always liked to hear. The doctor had suggested she'd last another day or two, and true to form she didn't wait around. My sisters, one daughter and I were there to hold her as she died.

God will look after her, the rest of us have each other.
