Off the top of my head, I can only think to add: Regularly piss on a half dozen trees at the perimeter of your property - the higher up the tree, the better; black bears are just as dangerous as any others, and; while pistols are convenient to carry, shotguns are the firearm of choice due to their versatility and ease of handling.
