Has it occurred to others that we, as a culture, have brought back the 'nosegay to block out street smells'?   Only now, it is a sound blocker. All those headphones. Maybe even cellphones (mobiles) serve the function of blocking out unwanted sounds and strangers.

Has anyone recently rread 'Future Shock'? It seems to me that our society is well into it as described.
