Margaret's Waltz was written by Patrick Shuldham Shaw, stalwart of the English Folk Dance and Song Society and prolific collector and composer. In the '60s, I would guess, though others will have more accurate information than I. Aly Bain did a lot to popularise the tune, recording it in 1989, and I suspect that most versions played nowadays are based on his playing rather than on the original piece. I'm not aware of any lyrics, but it wouldn't be too surprising if a number of people had tried their hands at making some; though they would have to be pretty good to do justice to that melody...Malcolm
