A GIFT OF OLD INSPIRES A NEW GENERATION OF MUSICIANS

Seattle, WA >

"At the March 17 concert featuring Seattle's talented young musicians, German violin maker Roderich Paesold and Seattle-based Hammond Ashley Violins presented a violin hand crafted in Germany to the Seattle Youth Symphony Orchestras (SYSO).

'SYSO will loan the violin to a student in one of its five orchestras who is not only in need of a violin, but also demonstrates exceptional musical aptitude. "This violin is special, so beyond just a financial need, our artistic faculty will choose a student who is making great musical progress and whose use of this violin will accelerate their musical education," states Dan Petersen, executive director of SYSO.

"The violin is unique because it is made from 100-year old spruce taken from organ pipes throughout Germany as they were converted from wood to metal.    "The more a wooden instrument is played, the better the sound," states Bryce Van Parys, general manager of Hammond Ashley Violins.   "The spruce used to craft this violin enjoyed 100 years of music as a pipe organ and can now enjoy another 100 years inspiring new generations of musicians."

"Founded in the early 1900's Roderich Paesold is renowned for its high quality string instruments that are some of the finest in the world.   Hammond Ashley is a full service violin dealer, specializing in the set up, restoration, and repair of all violin family instruments and is the largest shop in the Northwest. In addition to presenting the violin to SYSO at the March 14 concert at Benaroya Hall, Hammond Ashley and Roderich Paesold sponsored the live broadcast on Classical KING FM. "
