This thread really shows the range of musical taste here! I was bored by the show. They are all obviously very talented musicians, but I found the packaging of this presentation to be over-produced. It had sweetness and beauty, but lacked fire and passion.

It's not a matter of untraditional vs traditional for me, really, as I loved what Riverdance did with Irish stepdancing. I thought that show was well-produced, imaginative, and exciting. My disappointment with the singing show is not based on a purist definition of this music.

GUEST, if this show inspired you to take up the fiddle, then good! Mairead Nesbitt is a powerful fiddler, no doubt. Though I found the show uninspiring, If it inspired people to open the door and enter, then that in itself is a positive outcome. Lastly, I don't think it's necessarily insulting to the musicians to bash the show; it's how the show was conceived and produced, just as a movie can be trashed for mis-using the talents of a fine actor.
