Oh Sherlock Holmes is deid land syne
In some forgotten garret.
But that's good luck, for Holmes would boke [puke]
If he heard the name o' Barrett.
"Superintendant Barrett" from the singing of Ewan MacColl on
Bad Lads and Hard Cases, Riverside LP, 1957.
The Stone of Scone, used to crown Scottish kings, was "removed" from Scotland to London
by the English in 1296. It was "removed" from Westminister Abbey by persons unknown
in 1951. There was considerable investigation led by Scotland Yard Superintendant Barrett but
the results were felt inconclusive. Seems they thought they found it but then a whole bunch of
identical counterfeit stones appeared. (Some stone was returned to Scotland in 1996.)
