Why do the lobbyist have so much more power than the people?

When did they come to exist? Isn't their anything in the constitution to protect people from the power they wield over elected officials? It is obvious that they control the politicians and not the will of the people.

When will the Republicans realize that they, too, have been had by greedy power mongers who care nothing for the lives of their children.
