The expression "special needs" seems almost completely useless to me. Down Syndrome persons have special needs; autistic persons have special needs; persons with attention deficit syndrom have special needs; persons with various degrees and kinds of physical deformity have special needs. For goodness sakes, a kid with an IQ of 180 has special needs!
