According to Meade (p240), it was recorded by Byron G. Harlan for Victor twice in 1905 and again in 1907. Country recordings included Charles Nabell (1926), Tobacco Tags (1939), Roy Acuff and His Smoky Mountain Boys (1940) and Red River Dave McEnery (1940). Meade also gives the 1905 date for the Harris original publication.
