Mary, I could be wrong but at a guess, are you using the back and forward buttons on your browser and possibly reading old pages as a result?

That might explain the error message you saw and Mudcat for example, as far as I am aware, basicialy creates the web page you see on demand - a sort of query. If it isn't refreshed and you use the back button, you will see things as they were before.
