For what it's worth - those who claim citizenship, or have become naturalized citizens of countries other than the United Kingdom, the Isle of Man and the Commonwealth countries (there are still about 3 out there...) are not entitled to full honors. They are entitled to 'honorary' honors - sort of like getting an honorary degree from a university or college, when all you did there was deliver milk. (This really happened... Sir Sean Connery went to Edinburgh University to collect an honor and when asked 'did you ever come here before' said 'Yes, I used to deliver the milk'.)

An Honorary knighthood means you get the prestige (and possibly a bath once a year) but are not entitled to call yourself 'Sir' or 'Dame'. That's why the press (should) always put quote marks when referring to 'Sir' Bob Geldof. He holds an Irish passport and is a citizen of Eire.
