Troll - "friendly fire" has been happening since the Battle of the Bulge.....

I have not been in combat but my brother in law has - he being for several years, a member of the Royal Army Medical Corps - the ones who have A REALLY BIG RED CROSS on the side of their unarmoured vehicles. His colleagues were blown off what was supposed to be a 'safe' road behind the lines during the first Iraq conflict. They were blown up by an anti tank missile, fired by an American patrol who were so lost they thought they were 18ks further south than they were. It was my brother in law who had to go and scrape bits of his best friend off what was left of the inside of an unarmoured vehicle formerly used to carry the wounded to safety.

And I've held and read war diaries from every British conflict between Plassey and the Falklands that the Dorset/Devon & Dorset Regiment have been involved in. Not the nicely bound, sanitised versions that you buy in the bookstore; I've read the real document that was carried with the regiment, written up at every opportunity whilst it was fresh in the mind, some of it still stained with the mud of Flanders and the blood of comrades. There is one instance where a battalion on 'R&R' in a 'safe' area after a 19 day push were bombed out of their shelter by Allied bombers. More were killed and injured in that little debacle than had been, fighting the SS Panzer divisions they were forcing back towards Germany.
