Thread Name: what is 'concert sound'??
Subject: RE: what is 'concert sound'??
Orchestral instruments are tuned to the A produced by an oboe - it being the most difficult instrument to adjust. It's so the instruments are all in tune with each other and make a sensible sound, rather than a tuneless cacophony. It's been done that way since before 440Hz or whatever was discovered. Orchestras can be tuned to baroque pitch as well, which is a different Hz rating. It's got nothing to do with concert sound, which I suspect is the effect of actually being at the concert, a sort of surround sound but without taking the eardrums out like the THX thingy at the cinema.
