At the end of WW2, I was stationed at a camp which had a prison compound with soldiers captured from the North Africa Corps. Many fine men. Their cooks had received permission to buy for their kitchen, because they disliked US Army cuisine, and we would go there to get coffee cake and coffee. A few were quite good at making copies of their Corps rings and the like which they traded for cigarettes and items from our PX. We heard a lot of their song, but not knowing German, we only picked up the melodies to whistle.

I agree with Chico; these songs are a part of history. This is one of the most attractive for melody, and a legitimate song of the Africakorps. I can understand the reluctance of some Germans to acknowledge these songs, but they have just as much right to be here as the songs of the Confederacy, or the Boers of South Africa.
