Sonnet 12/05/05                         CMXCIX

What magic does my muse possess, to hold
To heart and soul? The thought of her has power
To all of dreams control: Hopes know how cold
Her absence leaves even the warmest hour.
Can longing find a path, to lead my dreams
To muse and summer dawn? Should heart desire
Only this one sweet perfect flower? Heart seems
To have no choice: She all of dreams inspire.
Will time alter desire, to give hopes pause
While I remain alive? I cannot say
All will remain the same, but muse is cause
Of caring I cannot from heart let stray.
She fills my dreams, and heart, and soul: How might
I find the words to keep her in my sight?
