The article then should read "a rank which USED to be held nearly 50 years ago by Senator Robert Byrd (D-West Virginia).
"Senator Byrd is a case study in the power of man to overcome adversity... He has just released a book where he again apologizes for things he did in his youth."

It does indeed take more to tell the Truth than to cover it up.

The power of one word can change the meaning and one's perspective if inserted in the wrong context. This would indeed seem to be the case with this particluar article.
As I said my only reason for posting "the article" was to answer John Hardly's question, that 'Killin' was NOT a Senator.
I made a poor choice to make that point.
I apologize for that.
