Thread Name: BS: Music for when you're effed up
Subject: RE: BS: Music for when you're effed up
Which music I listen to when I'm sad depends on what has gotten me down and whether I'm wanting to get myself back 'up' or let the sadness take its natural course before dissapating.

When I want to recharge my spirit I usually play compilations I've made myself of uptempo songs from Caribbean music [Soca, Reggae, Compas]; USA: Zydeco & Wild Indian music, African music [particularly Nigerian Juju and Ghanaian Highlife}}. If I want to be energized I also mix in some Latin Jazz like Tito Puente and Mongo Santamaria and some Brazilian samba music.

If I'm in to being sad, I usually listen to some African American gospel music and/or some oldies R&B love music. Of course, these tend to make me sadder.

And yes, I also add Blues songs to the list of songs I'd add to the wallow-in-sadness mood music; though if I'm wanting to move from the sadness I will add some uptempo Blues-more vocal than instrumental.

I definitely add old school and contemporary R&B & Bass {House} dance music to the list of music that lifts me out of my depressed mood.

I also add some Jazz samples in both types of mood music-when I'm wanting to be 'up', and when I'm wallowing in being 'down'. ...

And I also have added some samples from the CDs I've gotten from Catters-though I'm not sure what category or categories of music that is [pop? folk? both?]

Ah! maybe it's ETHNIC music! LOL!!!
