For serious comfort, I'd say mainly classical instrumental music--especially calming or transporting music--e.g. Mendelssohn -Fingal's Cave, Scottish Symphony, or his violin concerto. Lots of Mozart. Beethoven--Pastoral Symphony. Any of Brahms' 4 symphonies. Also, though choral--Mozart Requiem, Brahms Requiem---definitely transporting pieces.

If you want to hit back at the people who have screwed up everything-- if you can finger somebody for the situation-- , there's a real good song on country radio now (which is actually 70s rock under another name). Anyway, it's "My Give-A-Damn's Busted".   Sounds like a good candidate to play and sing along with in this situation. Some other older (a few years) country songs are "Here's A Quarter--Call Someone Who Cares" and "Blame It On Your (Lyin' Cheatin' Cold Dead-Beatin' Two-Timin'-Double-Dealin' Lovin') Heart."

Also, as Azizi mentioned, to raise your spirits--reggae---especially the soundtrack to The Harder They Come and some Bob Marley--Exodus, for instance.

And then there's also the Who--"Won't Get Fooled Again"---especially the cathartic scream towards the end.
