Sonnet 09/06/05                         MIX

I do not know how to hold muse as mine,
Though I am hers: How can words find a way
To show concern? Can hope from distance say
Enough, or should dreams to dark fears resign?
I worry that my muse's moods align
Too well with mine: Does yearning heart relay
More than desires? How can I caring stay,
Yet offer sadness? Will heart's hopes decline?
Should I seek to know how to her smile earn,
When I fear I might yet give cause for tear?
I'd rather dreams die than risk hurting muse.
What can I do? To what path should I turn,
To protect muse's heart? Dare hope appear
Before I know which of her dreams she'll choose?
