He's a buffoon, alright. I think he has been working overtime to promote his image as lovable. In fact, I think thats why so many Americans like him. He's just a good guy capable of making mistakes. They don't want a capable leader. They want someone with all the human frailties; someone who makes silly mistakes. It makes their own vulnerability so much more palatable.
