I know just what you mean. Had it myself, and it was by far the most painful part of the whole open-heart affair.
    My surgeon's nurse told me that it was a quite common result of the cruciform position they stretch you out in for the operation--if you have tight muscles and/or rotator cuff difficulties, you can get some extremely painful torn muscles fom this. When I first got home, I couldn't roll over in bed, nor get out of bed unassisted (the side and shoulder, not the incision.) Took six to eight weeks to clear up.
    Talk about collateral damage!
