I feel as though I ought to post a farewell and appreciation on behalf of Caffe Lena here.
Hedy was - and will always remain - a part of the legend of the Caffe. She was one of those people whom Lena treasured (she didn't treasure everyone). Perhaps the fact that both loved theatre and had fathers who were union men had something to do with that.
Most likely, it came down to the magic Hedy created on that tiny stage. She wasn't a physically large person,... but the presence she created! She is one of those rare people whose name comes up over and over when you ask audience members of years gone by who they remember hearing at the Caffe.


I'd hoped, many of us had, that we could do something to honor her contribution to Lena's while she lived. Not to be.
