Happy Birthday!

Soviet Army lieutenant (ret. as Major) sniper,
Lyudmilla Pavlichencko

born 7/12/1916

She was cited in May 1942 for personally killing 257 German soldiers in the siege of Leningrad. She was credited over all with 309 kills. She later received a hero's welcome in New York and Washington and was the first Soviet citizen to visit the White House. The CIO presented her with a Colt automatic pistol - a warrior's gift. At home she received the Order of Lenin and title, Hero of the Soviet Union. After the war she worked as a historian and journalist.   [Per KJ Cottam, Women in War and Resistance, 1996]
