dianavan, sorry to miss your post earlier. I agree--she said what I had been thinking, and she articulated her doubts and questions so well because she DID read the bible.

Years ago I was poking through the library for something else and found a two volume set of books by Isaac Asimov, I think, that examines the history and literature of the bible. I thought it looked interesting and stashed the idea away that one of these years I'd like to go back and visit all three volumes. Julia Sweeney provides a very tidy shortcut to that process.
