Clint,

Here lies the problem. Many people either want this war to be considered or just assume that this war is really only a "police action". That way, their argument that "torture" occurs may hold some water. But it doesn't. In this war, I feel pretty certain that no widespread systematic "torture" has occurred. Are there periodic reports of soldiers letting things get out of hand? Sure there are. But to sit back and blame the whole system for the acts of a few is completely idiotic.

When I hear the word "torture", it brings to my mind the breaking of kneecaps or the driving of bamboo shoots under the fingernails. It brings out the thoughts of all of the things that you have seen on movies that you consider torture.

But I'm with DougR on this one. These people are not US citizens and are not subject to the same civil liberties that actual citizens are. Any means of interrogation that are used to garner information on any future attack or info on where certain people may be located or even any info that will give us an idea to patterns that are followed by the terrorists is always welcomed.

I personally believe that any interrogation means just short of death should be used in order to get the info. But that's just me. Remember what was said earlier in the thread....these people are not just ordinary muslims that were randomly picked off the street because of the way that they looked. These people are in the place their in because they were caught taking up arms or providing assistance to those who took up arms against the forces of the coalition. If there are any that are at Gitmo that are truly innocent of any wrong doing then they were in the wrong place at the wrong time. That is unfortunate and should be released immediately once determined that they have nothing to do with anything. But I think that the percentage of those if any are present is very, very small.
