young fella with fear in his voice called in to a tower operator. He was in a small plane, he was over a thick layer of clouds in mountain country, he had no firm idea where he was, no transponder, and no instrument experience. The controller made an executive decision, told the kid he was not far from an airport, he just had to lower himself wings level through the clouds, and talked him through it. The controller thought the kid was doomed but deserved to have an injection of confidence and a friendly voice during his last minutes of existence.

But...


The kid lowered into a valley, and there WAS an airport below!
