Rap, you obviously haven't heard the old standard Gnome on the Range or you'd know they have a long and dignified history. Some may not have been called the same thing, such as the Cherokee Little People, who moved west with the tribe during the Trail of Tears.

The Cherokee little people I've heard about from Indian friends have been the scarier and malicious ones.
