"My company doesn't give explanations of outage to our customers either. During the outage we are normally to busy trying to fix it - and afterwards the point is moot."
You must have very understanding customers.
It appears to be a software problem as the actual machine is often "up" when the website is down. If, as it appears, the cat maintains more than one IP address then couldn't they attach a status screen page to a limited webserver attached to the second address, this would at least satisfy the people whos main complaint is lack of information.
While I like the simplicity of this site it's simply asking for problems in the way it returns all responses to all requests: it's ludicrous. Look at the size of some of the threads. The amount of work that poor little server is doing is crazy.
The forum is old fashioned and, it seems, unique to mudcat which means they have to fix everything themselves. There are plenty of free forum applications that can cope with this sort of volume and are well maintained and supported.
When I last looked at Netcraft it showed the cat was running win2000 so they'll probably be changing that soon anyway
