My car beeps at me loudly if it thinks the petrol is getting low. It's supposed to mean there are 10 litres left, but sometimes it seems to be triggered off early. So even though I know I could get home easily before I need to buy petrol, the constant beep beep that you can't turn off is so irritating that I am bullied into stopping for petrol just to shut the thing up. I was stuck in traffic with it the other day, and couldn't get near a garage for half an hour :-(
First time I heard it was just after I bought the car. I hadn't been warned, and it isn't mentioned in the owners handbook because it turns out I have the super deluxe version of the Ford Fairmont - the Ghia, with all the bells and whistles - literally!
The sound reminds me of the baby magpies that come round here in spring with their parents, waiting to be fed and going yark yark yark all the time. So I call the car Maggie.
