So if you are partially sighted or blind, how do you tell if your jacket potato is done if the microwave doesn't go 'ping'?

These 'pings' have a function. I admit that some of them are bloody annoying - none more so than the watch alarm that a friend has that beeps periodically, but he is the only person in the room that cannot hear it, but think about it ... they're there for a reason - just because you do not require that extra auditory warning, doesn't mean others don't either.

I wish our oil guage beeped at a certain level.... the light only comes on when it's practically empty; and in daylight, it's not the easiest thing to see.
