Well, nobody who knows me will be particularly surprised that I met Sheryl at a science-fiction convention. It was just over 10 years ago at a con called Disclave which was held in DC over Memorial Day weekend. A mutual friend had invited her to come up and crash on the floor of the hotel room he and I happened to be sharing (with several other folks...).

A few months after the con we struck up an e-mail correspondence, and Sheryl kept coming up from NC (she was working at Duke at the time) and staying in the room with the group of friends I usually split rooms with.

Finally she moved up to this area in 1997 for better job and social opportunities. We ended up doing a lot of stuff together--concerts, con trips, movies, etc. Then near the end of 1999, after we'd both been in relationships with other folks, she finally asked **me** if we could be more than friends, and I admitted I'd been interested in that too (but too afraid to ask).

2-1/2 years later, I invited her to move in with me.

A little more than a year after that, I popped the question at the top of the world's largest free-standing structure (that'd be the CN Tower for the non-architects and engineers out there...*grin*).

And 51 weeks ago Sunday, we got married! 8-)
