The first - and unfortunatley only - time I saw Doc was in Manchester, UK in 1965 ( on the same bill as Phil Ochs ). I'd only heard of Doc by reputation, and I think I was expecting a high-pitched Bill Monroe type singer. However, Doc's rich baritone - and fabulous guitar playing - blew me away. It remains one of my most treasured musical memories.
