Doc Watson's "Deep River Blues" quoted above in Katlaughing's entry is his version of the Delmore Brothers song "Big River Blues". "Brown's Ferry Blues" is another song by the Delmores which starts of with the words "Hard Luck Papa Countin' His Toes". I think Art has confused the two.

Another piece of thread creep I know but Browns Ferry Blues has some salty verses although you won't necessarily hear them on disc, and when King Records asked Grandpa Jones about recording some gospel quartet material he and the other guys (Merle Travis and the two Delmores if my memory is correct) what name they should give the group they thought it would be amusing to name the gospel group after a risue song. Hence the Brown's Ferry Four.
