Subject: RE: Help: Flat Stanley
There is a children's book called Flat Stanley, about a boy who was... well... flat. It's become a bit of a tradition in some schools for the children to make a Flat Stanley, or their own likenesses out of paper, and send them to various locations around the globe to cooperative participants who then photograph the paper cut-out in the environment of that locale- some people do just that, others go a little crazy and "dress" the Stanleys in local attire, keep a journal for Stanley, send postcards, or whatever they wish. The minimalist approach is all that's needed, tho' we don't object to the expanded approach! We've chosen to use Flat Stanley to teach 7-8 year olds about winter around the globe. John, the sub-tropics would be ideal! I'm not looking necessarily for other schools, just kind 'Catters who wouldn't mind taking Stanley in, giving him shelter for a brief time, then sending him back to New Hampshire! The unit begins Jan. 3, assuming we're able to resume school as usual, so let me know if you're interested! Merriest of everything! Allison P.s. I should add that I'm collecting addresses for the children who don't have addies of their own- so far the response is so great I may not be able to send Stanley to you all! You're all so wonderful! xxxoooxoxoxox
