Sonnet 12/08/05                      MXIX

Muse is both judge and jury: Smiles decide
The worth of my endeavors, and my dreams.
All I say cannot my longings confide,
That I see hope only in her eyes' gleams.
How can I find the means to dreams repay,
To reflect shadow of the light dreams give?
I would heart share: But can I hope to stay
Under her spell, when only my dreams live?
I want more than my dreams: I want to know
That she is happy. Should I try to hold,
Or offer kiss? Dare I let my hopes grow,
When I have not my muse's dreams been told?
Is there even a chance that I might lift
The cloud that haunts muse, with my own heart's gift?
