Cows and elephants, my simian friend, contribute enough methane to the atmosphere to more than offset the CO2 emissions caused by human devices. Not that that is any excuse, but lets not go all speciest here. The famous process engineer -- the man who taught the Japanese how to make cars -- W. Edwards Deming -- always used to emphasize that the problem was never the individual, it was in the process.

I dunno if you chimps have a similar principle but maybe we could generalizer and say "The problem is never in the species, but in the planetary processes".
